Karma Yoga
"The beauty and charm of selfless love and service should not die away from the face of the earth. The world should know that a life of dedication is possible, that a life inspired by love and service to humanity is possible. Through selfless action we can eradicate the ego that conceals the Self. Detached, selfless action leads to liberation. Such action is not just work, it is karma yoga." The Hindu Saint Mata Amritanandamayi
As many of you know I spend alot of my time at Shake-A-Leg Miami volunteering my time for this amazing organization. A non-profit organization originally created to offer sailing to disabled persons, Shake-A-Leg has grown into a phenomenal institution where disabled persons of all ages as well as disadvantaged children and families come together for water sports activities, academic, art and computer programs. Also offered are many community activities including but not limited to sailing classes and regattas. The structure is supported by volunteers of all physical abilities. Shake-A-Leg, it's staff and students have brought me much joy.
Karma yoga is just one branch of six ways to practice yoga. Through karma yoga, I have learned what it means to be a part of the never ending cycle of giving and receiving with no motive other than to uplift the lives of others. One way to give in this manner is to volunteer or perform community service.
If you are ever in the Miami area please drop by for a visit, offer to volunteer or participate in one of the many social activities offered. I also encourage you to find a way to practice karma yoga wherever you happen to be.
Check out Shake-A-Leg Miami's website for more information about the organization and
